Leona Debolt | CONFIGURE

Configure, as a body of work, has developed over the past 18 months as I re-engaged with my practice following a brief period of reflection and withdrawal. The result has been a reinvigoration of my practice, bolstered by a renewed energy that comes with the joyful pleasures of experimentation and curiosity. The material translation of this process has been an exploration of non-traditional mediums and tools, explorations of layers and texture and a focus on the relationship of colour to the consistent elements of immediacy and play.

Claudie’s new body of work Evidence of a previous mountain explores; memory embedded landforms, natural phenomena, habitual cycles and metaphysical experience

After emerging in spring they return, 

flying by night, following the sky pathways, 

around absent forms and those still standing. 

And in the light, cave resting and rainbow gazing.

As shadows they move, dusty wings beating, past the memories of her mother’s labour,

her childhood play, following the river where her father will one day rest. 

Knowing in their codes, the way around the invisible mountain.
